This etched print, part of the Château de Fontainebleau collection, depicts daybreak on the Wagram plain on 6 July, 1809.
 
During the early years of the nineteenth century, the use of colour in prints took on great importance as the dyes became clearer and more defined and the range of colours on offer improved.
