Notes:

This work of art, which features General Lasalle, retells a particular episode of the Battle of Wagram (5-6 July, 1809). Mounted on the back of a rearing horse, the general's courage is plain to see. He saved the life of Masséna at Heilsberg but was killed at Wagram leading a light-cavalry charge against the Austrian general Klenau.
