Notes:

During the Empire period, Napoleon occupied the rooms on the level of the Orangerie (the corps de logis) and also used (up to 1806) what had been the queen's apartment (the left wing facing the courtyard. The empress lived in what used to be king's apartment (left wing facing the garden) and all the Fer à Cheval wing.

During the Second Empire, Napoleon III took Napoleon I's apartment facing the courtyard and Eugénie took the rooms facing the garden.
