Notes:
It was in a thick mist at 6 o'clock that the French opened the proceedings at the Battle of Jena. More than 150,000 soldiers, French on one side, and Prussians and Saxons on the other, fought. The French victory here, supported by Davout's at Auerstedt on the same day, crushed the kingdom of Prussia and left the way open for Napoleon to enter the Prussian capital, Berlin, on 27 October, 1806.
