This permanent exhibition is centred around a significant donation of Napoleonic objects that belonged to the late Ben Weider, who requested that this incredible ensemble remain in Montreal.
The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts inaugurates its new permanent galleries devoted to Napoleon and the arts under the First Empire, thanks to a major gift – the collection of works assembled by the late Ben Weider, for whom “Napoleon was a giant of history, one of the most influential figures of the nineteenth century, who helped to define the modern age.” The exhibition brings together more than 100 objects and works related to the arts under the First Empire, as well as unveiling other donations and loans related to the period. These galleries represent one of the most important collections dedicated to Napoleon I in North America.
At the request of Ben Weider's family, the exhibition will open as originally planned on 24 October 2008 at 11 am.
