Details
This autumn, the Maison de Victor Hugo in Paris is holding an exhibition of photographic portraits, albums and documents taken from its permanent collections. These items offer a fascinating insight into the life of the writer and of those in his inner circle, and demonstrate how Hugo used the medium of photography to serve his image. The exhibition covers three periods: his exile in Jersey (1852-1855), then in Guernsey (1855-1870), and finally his return to Paris, where he died in 1885. Many of the images on display were taken by some of the most famous photographers of the period, including Edmond Bacot, Etienne Carjat, Arsène Garnier, Pierre Petit, Disdéri, Gustave le Gray, Félix Nadar and Julia Margaret Cameron. When: 23 October, 2009 - 31 January, 2010 Where: Maison de Victor Hugo Hôtel de Rohan-Guéménée 6, place des Vosges 75004 Paris France Opening times: Tuesday - Sunday: 10am - 6pm (Closed Monday and public holidays)
