A new freshwater canal from Ismailia to Port Said. The cuttings
completed.
Originally the town of Port Said received its freshwater via a
pressurised double steel pipe from Ismailia. In the last months
of 1887, construction work began on a new branch of the feeder
canal from the Nile, in order to provide an increased supply of
the water needed by Port Said and ships in transit.
