Three presentation convering topics approached in an original  way, the result of continuous research in the archives of Lucca and France on the issues of life and the “myth” of the emperor and his family, and on the traces left by their presence in Lucca and Tuscany. The topics of the 12th edition are: The Palace and its transformations, Napoleon’s older brother and everything he did (or tried to do) for him, the Emperor’s (many) loves.

 Monday 20th August at 9.30 pm: “Elisa a Palazzo: from rigour to splendour”, Velia Gini Bartoli and Simonetta Giurlani Pardini.

The Palazzo Ducale has been the centre of the political power of the city for centuries, but only with Elisa Bonaparte Baciocchi does it assume the appearance it has today, and only with her profound and innovative intervention does it become so visible and legible in the functional map of the city. Velia Gini Bartoli and Simonetta Giurlani Pardini will talk about the transformation of this building from the Republic to the Principality.

Tuesday 21 August at 21.30 “Joseph Bonaparte, head of the Bonaparte family”. Peter Hicks,

University professor of history, historian and head of international relations at the Fondation Napoléon in Paris, recently protagonist of important discoveries on the exile of the Emperor, Peter Hicks will talk about the role Joseph played in the political affairs of his brother Napoleon. And how much did his contemporaries know about it? State affairs conducted “in the living room” thanks to an entire “family” of French and American diplomats.

Wednesday 22 August at 9:30 p.m. “The Eros of an Emperor. Gli amori di Napoleone nel cinema” (Napoleon’s loves in cinema) Pier Dario Marzi

Thanks to his collaboration with Cineforum Cinit Ezechiele 25:17, Pier Dario Marzi continues to interpret the Emperor through films dedicated to him. In this year’s talk he will focus on the most famous or significant cinematographic moments that have seen Napoleon and his many women as the main caracters. A romantic imperial evening.

The Conversazioni Napoleoniche are a cultural event taking place every August in Lucca, part of the project “From Paris to Lucca: the taste of living in the time of Napoleon and Elisa”, designed by Roberta Martinelli with the contribution of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Lucca and the Foundation of Livorno.

Monday 20, Tuesday 21 and Wednesday 22 August in the cloister of San Micheletto at 21.30pm.
