The Fan in 19th-century France: from Josephine to Eugenie

The fan was an elegant functional ornament imported from Asia during the Renaissance becoming an essential fashion object in 18th century Paris until it almost disappeared during the Revolution. It was rediscovered in the eras of the two French Empires and the Restoration, as an object of propaganda, entertainment or curiosity. “The fan, from Josephine to Eugenie”: an artistic and technical, social and historical exhibition, with 150 loans of not only fans, but also costumes, paintings and drawings.
