TWO HUNDRED YEARS AGO
Doctor Desgenettes, chief doctor at the Paris Hôpital militaire, introduced vaccination by inoculation to the establishment. It was reported that he vaccinated his six-week-old son.
Le Moniteur, 8 Frimaire, An XI (29 November, 1802)

8 Frimaire, An XI (29 November, 1802), celebration at the church Sainte-Eustache, Paris, of Monsieur Lebrun, the Third Consul's son, and Mademoiselle Barbé-Marbois, daughter of the Ministre du Trésor public.

10 Frimaire, An XI (1 December, 1802), the drawing of lots for conscription for the 6th arrondissement began three days after the closure of the selection process in the rest of Paris. This was because a riot, which lasted all night, had caused particular public consternation. On 9 Frimaire, the action of agents provocateurs and the absence of the mayor had caused such a disturbance that the Dragoons of the 9eme were forced to intervene. The Préfecture de Police reported one death amongst the conscripts, whilst local residents spoke of twenty fatalities and more than 50 wounded.

14 Frimaire, An XI (5 December, 1802), Napoleon had a conversation with the new British ambassador Hawkesbury on the particularly sensitive subject of the evacuation of the island of Malta by British troops. On this subject, the First Consul had only one thing to say: "I want the Treaty of Amiens, nothing more, nothing less!"

Also on 14 Frimaire, An XI, a depuitation of Swiss cantons arrived in Paris to receive the mediation of the First Consul.

Wishing you an excellent, Napoleonic, week!
