Napoléon Bonaparte. Un homme, un empereur

The campaigns of Egypt, Italy, the coup d'Etat of 18 Brumaire, the coronation, the battles of the empire period, the battle of Waterloo, the exile on the island of Saint Helena were all elements which came to make up the 'Napoleonic legend' of a simple man called to an extraordinary destiny: Napoleon Bonaparte. This excellent little book (in French) is the perfect introduction to the Bonaparte family, at work or on military campaign, French society of the 19th century, the huge changes which France underwent, and the remarkable artistic flourishing that was the First Empire. The book has many illustrations, and amongst these are some of the most famous paintings of the period by Gros, David, Canova, and Ingres.
