Die Königlich Sächsichen Mitglieder der Ehrenlegion (1807-1813) [The Saxons who received the Légion d’honneur (1807-1813), in German]

Based on the honorific tradition of the Ancien régime, the Order of the Légion d'honneur created by Napoleon recognised for the first time not only military but also civic merit. It is still a key symbol of modern France. The first part of this book, the fruit of original research and richly illustrated in colour, provides readers of German with a tool whereby they can study the history of Saxony in the Napoleonic period. As a result of Prussian policy, the Electorate of Saxony became allied to France at the end of 1806. Seven years later, Prussia declared the Kingdom of Saxony “its legimitate conquest”. However, the fidelity of the majority of Saxons to the French cause prevented Saxony becoming an integral part of Prussia. In the main part of the book, the author attempts to illustrate the real relations in those years of destiny, notably the 328 Saxons defintely (and the 45 possibly) awarded the decoration of the Order of the Légion d'honneur. Based on in-depth archival and library research, this book is dedicated as an eternal monument to those who brought honour to their native Saxony.

Chursachsen und die Annerkennung des Republik Frankreich [The Electorate of Saxony and the recognition of the French Republic, in German], Chemnitz 2001, 41 p., €10
This short book, based on documents in the Dresden and Paris archives, shows the diametrically opposed reactins of the Electorate of Saxony and Prussia with respect to the young French Republic. It is particularly notable for the quality of its sources.
