Created at the Paris Opera on 4 March 1859, Herculanum by Félicien David is one of the last productions of the grand style French opera: it is both in the line of the major works by Rossini, Halévy and Meyerbeer, while demonstrating that the Verdi revolution had begun to reach the French opera scene.
