At the Tuileries, on a winter's night in 1803-1804, Bonaparte and his second Consul, Cambacérès, talk face to face. The two men, especially Bonaparte, speak of everything: earthly foods, Talleyrand, Fouché, Murat or Robespierre, Joséphine of whom Bonaparte is hoping an heir, his brothers and sisters and his dreams of grandeur. The ambitious 34-year-old strategist toys with the idea of becoming Emperor and of convincing his accomplice to support him. Bonaparte has only one wish: to start building his legend in his lifetime. He will then eloquently demonstrates that the Empire is nothing else than Republic on a throne.
