This weekend marks the final part of the bicentenary commemorations at Fontainebleau. Throughout Saturday and Sunday, the City and the Château of Fontainebleau will be celebrating the 200th anniversary of Napoleon's Farewell with an action-packed agenda of activities, events, exhibitions and re-enactments.
Highlights of the two-day programme include:
All day Saturday and Sunday: “Peasant Life in the Town” – family activities, nineteenth-century games, and farm animals, in various locations
All day Saturday and Sunday: “Country Market” – rue Grande and rue de la Paroisse
Saturday and Sunday, 12.30pm: “Music from the 1st Empire” – performed by the Union Musicale de Fontainebleau, Place du Jet d'eau
Saturday, 2pm: “Napoleonic Book Fair” – at the Théâtre Municipale
Saturday, 3pm: “Empress Josephine and Botany” – event at Place Napoleon Bonaparte
Sunday, 10am: “Troop Exercises” – reenactment of military manoeuvres, Place de l'Etape at the Château
and, finally, Sunday, 3.30pm: “Reenactment of Napoleon's Farewells” – a re-enactment of Napoleon's final goodbyes to and departure from Fontainebleau, dramatised by more than 300 participants, in the Cour d'Honneur at the Château.
