Niagara 1812 Legacy Council Programme of Commemorative Events

On April 14th, the Niagara 1812 Legacy Council announced their full event schedule for 2014. Throughout the summer, the events that took place in and around Niagara during the War of 1812 will be commemorated and retold through re-enactments, performances, and community events.

The first signature event in the programme, The Honouring, will take place inside Fort Niagara at dusk on June 28 and 29. The Honouring is a perfomance by the Kaha:Wi Dance Theatre that tells the story of Canada's native allies with stunning movement, rhythm, sound and video. July 5 and 6 will see re-enactments of the Battle of Chippawa and Battle of Lundy's Lane, with commemorative ceremonies before and after. Activities reach their peak on August 9 and 10 with the re-enactment of the Siege of Fort Erie, one of the bloodiest events that took place on Canadian soil and one of the largest annual re-enactments in Canada.

More information on these exciting events can be found on the Niagara 1812 Legacy Council's events page.
