Treasures from the Royal Archives

The Royal Archives contain the official and private papers of the Sovereign and other members of the British Royal Family, together with the records of the Royal Household and the private Royal estates. Dating principally from the reign of George III (r. 1760–1820) onwards, this unparalleled collection reflects and records some of the most significant moments in British history and provides a fascinating insight into the lives of monarchs and their families.

Since 1914 the Round Tower at Windsor Castle has been home to the Royal Archives. A selection of its treasures have been brought together in this exhibition to celebrate the centenary of the creation of the Royal Archives. The items on display date from the thirteenth to the twenty-first centuries and include personal correspondence, diary entries and account books for royal residences. Queen Victoria's earliest diaries, including one from an 1832 educational tour of the country, will be amongst the items on show.
