Napoleon’s Bivouac: Imperial Luxury on Campaign

As part of the celebrations to mark the bicentenary of Napoleon's arrival on the island of Elba, Napoleon's imperial tent will be on show at the Villa di San Martino – Galleria Demidoff from the beginning of June until 15 October, 2014. This sumptuous tent was used by Napoleon on his campaigns and subsequently on the island of Elba; in the gardens of the Palazzetto dei Mulini whilst he was waiting for the work on his residence to be completed and again to receive Marie Walewska in September 1814. This tent has only recently been on show to the public as it has just been restored after several years of meticulous work. It was first shown at the Musée Fesch in Ajaccio (Corsica) earlier this year.
