The exhibition, entitled “Imagining the nation. Knowledge and representations of the territory in Turin, 1848-1911, aims to illustrate the role played by the cultural and scientific manifestations in Turin in the process of formation and dissemination of historical and geographical knowledge of Italy between the 18th and 19th century, which served to provide further legitimacy to the new national state.
What were the elements that made Turin the heart of this process of legitimation of the new state and the monarchy?
The exhibition, which includes 169 pieces from the most important historical and cultural institutions of Turin and Piedmont. is divided into five sections:
– The myth of the Savoy dynasty
– Italian nationality and Exiles
– Knowledge, representation and territorial government
– Revealing the nation's image
– Country and territory in the major exhibitions
The exhibition is staged in the hall of the House of the Italian Parliament, the National Museum of the Italian Risorgimento of Turin, Piazza Carlo Alberto 8.
