'Love Bites: Caricatures by James Gillray'
Until 21 June 2015

This exhibition, marking 200 years since the artist's death, displays 50 satirical prints of James Gillray (1756-1815) from the collection of New College, Oxford. The prints often strikingly modern, vituperative and meticulously annotated. The collection includes prints (what we might term 'cartoons' today) on war and peace and Napoleon and his relations with the British.

'Great British Drawings'
Until 31 August 2015

The neighbouring exhibition is a display of the Ashmolean's wide-ranging collection of British artists, from Peter Lely (1618-80) to David Hockney, with appearances from underrepresented artists such as Colin Self. It provides a welcome context for the Gillray prints and also includes illustrators, satirists and cartoonists.
