"Victory Sir, Victory!" Henry Percy and the Battle of Waterloo, 1815
Alnwick Castle

Victory Sir, Victory! Henry Percy and the Battle of Waterloo, 1815' at Alnwick Castle, traces the story of Major Henry Percy's dash from Waterloo to London, with the news of Victory. With the help of rarely-seen archive material and works of art from the collection of Ralph Percy, the 12th Duke of Northumberland, the race from Waterloo undertaken by the Duke's ancestor, Major Henry Percy, Wellington's aide-de-camp, will be told in a special exhibition to commemorate the Bicentenary of the battle. The Waterloo Dispatch was written by Wellington the morning after Waterloo and Major Percy was the aide-de-camp chosen to carry it back to Britain in what turned out to be quite a journey. The exhibition is located in the State Rooms of the beautiful Alnwick Castle, home for 700 years to the Percy family, and one of the largest inhabited castles in the UK.

There will also be a talk 'The News from Waterloo' and book signing with Brian Cathcart on 16 June at 6.30pm in the Guest Hall.
Tickets for this talk go on sale on Friday 22nd May and will be available from Alnwick Castle's Admissions hall
