Bicentenary of Napoleon’s arrival on St Helena

On the 7th October a delegation from France including members of the Fondation Napoleon, the Souvenir Napoleonienne and a representativie of the French Minister of Foreign affairs arrives on St Helena for the anniversary of Napoleon's arrival on that island 200 years ago, on board Northumberland.
 
Among the celebrations is the official re-opening of Longwood house and in particular the “Generals' quarters” after the program of renovations there that has been funded by the international appeal coordinated by the Fondation Napaoleon. Read more about the work that has been achieved here

Wednesday 7
9.30 am Island Tour to all the Napoleonic sites. The tour also includes visits to the Millennium Forest, the Boer Graves at Knollcombes and Plantation House grounds, finally on to the Ladder Hill fortifications and Jacob's Ladder before returning to Jamestown.To book, contact Mr Hensel Peters on Tel:22701

2.30 pm- Historical Town Walk
Meet at the Cenotaph. A guided walk around lower Jamestown as an introduction to the Island, its people and its history. The tour concludes with refreshments at one of the old Georgian Town Hotels (10 places available). To book, contact Mr Basil George on Tel No: 24525

Thursday 8 October
9.30 am – Island Tour (3.5hrs) Visit the Napoleonic Sites,  then onto Stitches Ridges over looking Sandy Bay. Driving to Plantation House Grounds, Ladder Hill Fortifications and Jacob's Ladder before returning to Jamestown.To book, contact Mr Hensel Peters Tel: 2270

7 pm -Prince Andrew School
Movie Night  –  Projection of “The Man on the Rock” by Kenneth Griffith
Entrance fee £1.00 for adults and 50p for children under 16 years. First come, first seated basis.

Friday 9th October
4.30 pm – At the Museum: Napoleon Inspired Art Exhibition by artist, Aine O'Keeffe

Saturday 10th October
8 pm- Regency Ball. The St Helena Cancer Support & Awareness Group Regency Ball, including finger buffet snacks and cash bar.  Dress code: early 1815 or formal dress.

Sunday 11 October
8 am Service at St Paul's Cathedral
9.30 am Service at St John at Jamestown
 
10 am- Food Festival, Longwood GreenFood demonstration, local food on sale, St Helena Distillery, Crafters Market and local produce.

3 pm- Ceremony at the Tomb.
 
Monday, 12 October

Launch of the General's Quarters, Note – by invitation only, Longwood House, Longwood

Thursday 15 October
10 am Military March by Navy and Local organisations.Grande Parade, Jamestown

3.30 pm -“1815-2015″ Come along and help plant 200 endemic trees at the Millennium Forest where you will be helping re-establish a lost landscape, one that Napoleon would have known. Bring along a spade if you have one and suitable clothing and footwear.

Saturday, 17 October
6 pm – Re-enactment of Napoleon stepping ashore on St Helena. As portrayed by the 1970s BBC film my Kenneth Griffiths. Replication of the BBC's 1970 rendition of Napoleon Bonaparte's arrival at St Helena.Please note period dress is not necessary.  It is hoped that people who might have participated in the original documentation a few years ago may come forward to recreate the line up. Bring your candles and lanterns. Followed by live music in the Mule Yard.

Sunday, 18 October
10 am – Opening of Longwood House and General Quarter (Public opening)

2 pm – Pink Walk in Longwood. Hosted by the Cancer Awareness and support Charity.
Followed by tea in Longwood house gardens.
