Place:Venice

Subjects: Decorative arts, Italy, Napoleon (King of Italy)

Key words: Venice, palace, painting, fresco, Giuseppe Borsato

Credits: Musei Civici Veneziani

Notes:

The ceiling of the vestibule in the Ala Napoleonica is decorated with a fresco, which dates from the 19th century, showing putti bearing a tricolore, the symbol of Italian unity. The fresco itself is in very poor condition and is marred by many water stains.
The Comité Français de Sauvegarde Venice (the French Save Venice Committee) has launched a project to restore the building, suported by the Napoleon Foundation.
