The ceiling of the grand staircase in the Ala Napoleonica is the work of Sebastiano Santi who painted this over an earlierb work by Giambattista Canal (1745-1825), The Fall of the Giants. It is surrounded by panels in monocrhome representing trpohies and sea horses. Whilst the central fresco is in relatively good condition, the panels have suffered water damage, scaling and salt stains.
The Comité Français de Sauvegarde Venice (the French Save Venice Committee) has launched a project to restore the building, suported by the Napoleon Foundation.
