At Malmaison, the empress Josephine receives the emperor Alexander

During the Second Empire, Hector Viger, pupil of amongst others Drolling and de Delaroche, made a series of paintings relating to the history of the imperial family. Napoleon III had given him permission to work in the Château de Malmaison in 1863. This scene is set in the Salon de compagnie.
