Period postcard. The Reception of the Austerlitz standards (at Notre-Dame)

The Archbishop of Paris at Notre-Dame received the standards captured at Austerlitz with great pomp, and they were hung from the vaults. Napoleon thus became the new “tapissier” (tapestry hanger) of Notre-Dame, in line the famous epithet given to the Maréchal de Luxembourg after the Battle of Fleurus in 1690.
