The decoration of the grand staircase in the Ala Napoleonica was executed by Giuseppe Borsato (1771-1849), painter/interior decorator, who also took part in the decoration of the Fenice opera house. The balusters are in pink marble, as are the pilasters which are set against grey-veined marmorino walls. The cornice is in stucco.
The Comité Français de Sauvegarde Venice (the French Save Venice Committee) has launched a project to restore the building, suported by the Napoleon Foundation.
