The château of
Bois-Préau was bought by Josephine in 1810
as a place for entertaining her guests. Today it houses
a museum dedicated to the period dating from Napoleon’s
exile on St. Helena to the return of the ashes, and to
the Napoleonic legend.
The statue of Josephine by Vital-Dubray (1813-1892) was
commissioned by Napoleon III and exhibited at the
Universal Exhibition of 1867.
