Decorative Frieze from the salon in Josephine’s house in rue Chantereine (1)

Frieze from the Hôtel Bonaparte, 6, rue Chantereine, where Napoleon and Josephine lived from 1796 to 1799. This frieze was taken down and moved to 61, rue Saint-Lazare when the Hôtel was demolished in 1867; and taken down again and moved to Hôtel du prince Roland Bonaparte, 10, avenue d'Iena in 1892.
Princess George of Greece (née Marie Bonaparte) donated fragments that had not been remounted in her father's appartments. In 1959, she donated further parts of the frieze, and these were all later remounted in 1961 in the musée de Malmaison, together with the fragments found earlier.
