On 30 September 1800, at the château de Mortefontaine, owned by Joseph Bonaparte, the treat normalising franco-american relations was signed. Three days later Joseph organised a sumptuous party there.
See Thierry Lentz's article “Les relations américano-françaises, de la Révolution à la chute de l'Empire (1789-1815)” in the Revue du souvenir napoléonien n°405.
The preliminaries for the peace at Amiens were also negociated there on 25 MArch, 1802, and two weddings took place there between Joachim Murat and Caroline Bonaparte (20 January 1800) and between the prince Camille Borghèse and Pauline Bonaparte (5 November 1803).
