Barthélemy Louis Joseph Scherer (1747-1804) was Minister for War from July 1797 to February 1799 and it was in this post that he thought up the strategy for the campaign of spring 1799, together with Jourdan. This magnificen drawing by Isabey is similar to the portrait of Bonparte at Malmaison.
This work is part of the exhibition Marengo. Une victoire politique, which lasts until 28 August 2000 at the Museum of the Château de Malmaison et Bois-Préau.
