Napoleon Bonaparte: Japanese rice art

The latest issue of Far East Magazine (published by the Missionary Society of St Columban) features a fascinating article by Fr Eamonn Horgan SSC on Japanese Rice Art. Of particular interest is the impressive depiction of Napoleon  Bonaparte (after David) which stretches across an entire rice field in Inakadate, Japan. The highly detailed process involves computer mapping out a design and then planting different types of rice to create the different shades visible in the images.
