This painting by Jean-Baptiste Debret (1768-1848), dated 1808 and held at the Château de Versailles, was reproduced in postcard form at the beginning of the 20th century. The painting shows the moment when Napoleon gave the Grenadier Lazareff from the Preobrazenski batallion, the 'first grenadier in Russia', his own cross of the Légion d'honneur.
