It was by the Great Saint Bernard Pass and the Simplon Pass that the centre of Bonaparte's armée de Réserve reached Italy. Moncey was to go via the Saint Gotthard, Chabran via the Little Saint Bernard and Turreau was to take the Mont Cenis Pass.
