Inscription at the bottom of the engraving reads: “Animés et Commandés par le Général Sébastiani à qui le Grand Seigneur avait donné tout son pouvoir, les Turcs, les
Grecs, les Arméniens, et les Français placent des Batteries et Courent aux Armes”. ('Inspired and commanded by General Sébastiani to whom the Sultan had given full powers, the Turks, Greeks, Armenians and French set up their batteries and ran to arms'.) See the article by Gérald Arbois
