The prince viceroy of the Russian army rescuing one of his Polish officers surprised by some Cossacks

In November 1813, Napoléon made a series of art commissions. At the beginning of January 1814, Vivant Denon drew up a list of the 45 artists commissioned, amongst whom was Géricault. The young painter, who had made his debut at the Salon of 1812, was asked for a painting commemorating an act of heroism on the part of the prince Eugène. Never completed, this work is known only through the series of sketches held in Chicago Art Institute and at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
Rediscover this work in the exhibition Eugène de Beauharnais.
