Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826)

Jefferson was the principal author of the Declaration of Independance. Ambassador in France (1785-1789),
secretary of state for Foreign Affairs (1790-1793),
vice-president (1797-1801), president (1801-1809).
He refused to serve a third term, thereby creating the rule.
