This etching was made after Gasparo Galliari(1760-1818) and Jean-Baptiste Bosio (1764-1827).
Built in brick at the end of the Gothic period, the Duomo in Milan was (apart from the façade) faced entirely in marble. In 1805, Napoleon decided that the work should be completed and commissioned C. Amati to direct the project. Preserving to a large extent what had already been done, Amati finished the windows, buttresses and pinacles in the Gothic style and installed statuary of Neoclassical inspiration.
