Yews marking the site of the Château de Saint-Cloud: the Galerie d’Apollon

These yews mark the site of the Château de Saint-Cloud which burned down during the war of 1870. In fact they mark the spot of the imposing Galerie d'Apollon and its magnificent painted ceiling by Mignard.

It was here that the Anciens were meeting when the coup d'Etat of 18 Brumaire took place.
Here too was where Napoleon received the imperial crown from Cambacèrès and also where his civil marriage to Marie-Louise was performed.

In 1852, the prince-président, Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte, received here the Senatus-consulte which named him Emperor.
