Napoleon’s captivity on St Helena, 1815-1821 [reprint of ‘A St. Helena Who’s Who’]

At last Chaplin's (now exceedingly rare) A St. Helena Who's Who has been reprinted. And Savannah have given us the complete 1919 edition – the 1914 edition is one hundred pages shorter – but unfortunately they have changed the title. That being said, this is a fundamental work for all those interested in the Saint Helena episode. Chaplin not only studied the papers and memoirs of all those who came into contact with Napoleon on the island but also consulted other sources, such as the British Public Record Office and the India Office, where he consulted Army and Navy Muster Rolls, Casualty Returns, Paymasters Books, Officers Service Records &cc. The work is a comprehensive listing of all those present on St Helena at the time of Napoleon's detention and it includes:
biographies of Civil, Military and Naval personnel;
details of the British Regiments and Flagships and their officers stationed at St Helena, together with the names of the ships' passengers;
a topographical section giving the residences of the main inhabitants;
a chronological list of Napoleon's visitors;
a list of artists, some being members of the Military Forces, and details of their work, including sketches and paintings of Napoleon;
and marriages on the island.
