“Stonington – The sale of T-shirts that feature a likeness of one of the cannonballs that British ships rained on the borough during the Battle of Stonington in August 1814 has kicked off the bicentennial celebration planned for next summer.

A host of activities such as a parade, music, lectures and some type of recreation of the shelling during the attack are all being planned.

Residents successfully repelled the British attack and refused to surrender despite three days of bombardment from British ships just offshore.”
