The March 2012 issue of History Today (UK) features a number of articles of interest to nineteenth century-history enthusiasts and historians. As well as a short article on the Union of 1801 (a topical subject following the announcement of a date for the Scottish independence referendum), there are also articles on the cleaning of the river Thames in the mid-nineteenth-century, and British views of American democracy during the Victorian period. There are also book reviews of Jeremy Paxman's Empire: What Ruling the World Did to the British.
