The town of La Roche-sur-Yon (which was established on 25 May 1804, initially called ‘Napoleon’ under the Empire, and then ‘Napoléon-Vendée’ under the Second Empire) has officially joined the network of towns (such as Rueil-Malmaison, Compiègne, Fontainebleau and Saint-Cloud) whose history is strongly connected to one or both of the two French Empires justifying the label ‘Imperial City‘ created in 2011. Besides the immediate tourist interest, this title should allow the city to promote its future projects related to Napoleonic heritage.
