It is with sadness that we announce the death on Christmas Day 2008 of Captain Dr Colin White, FSA, FRHistS, MA. Colin was a passionate Nelson expert who in the twenty-first century occupied a special place during the bicentenary commemorations of the British admiral. In 2001 he was seconded to the National Maritime Museum as Director, Trafalgar 200 to assist the Museum with planning its 2005 initiatives: including a major exhibition, publications and special events, and in 2006 he was appointed Director of the Royal Naval Museum in Portsmouth. He also had a lasting influence on Nelson scholarship by his publication of the Nelson: the new letters, in 2005. His death is a great loss for the Nelsonian and Napoleonic worlds. The Fondation Napoléon offers its sincere condolences to his family and friends.
