UK government to push on with St Helena airport project

The UK Press Assocation and The Independent (UK) report on the UK government's plans to go ahead with the airport project for St Helena. The Labour government originally pledged to construct an airport in 2005 before postponing the project, citing economic issues. International Development Secretary for the Conservative-Liberal Democrats coalition government Andrew Mitchell recently announced however that the project would go ahead, citing the long-term benefits of such a construction. The island is currently served by a single Royal Mail Ship, RMS St Helena, which is nearing the end of its service life.
