This is the English version of Gallimard's excellent guide book to the route which Napoleon took on his escape from Elba and his return to Paris for the Hundred Days. It includes the history of the legendary 'Vol de l'Aigle' (Eagles flight) as the route is known, descriptions of the important buildings along the way, and the views of artists and writers on Napoleon's return. It also offers readers an eight-day itinerary from Golfe-Juan (where Napoleon disembarked) to Grenoble (where he finally gathered enough men to be able to march upon Paris). There is of course a selection of practical information including hotel recommendations, descriptions of museums, a list of festivals and 8 pages of maps. Numerous scholars contributed to the book, notably René Bourgeois, Jean-Loup Fontana and André Palluel-Guillard.
