From the publishers
This is a book about the exploits of the British fleet during the blockade of France during the Napoleonic wars. John Thomas Serres, pupil and son of the marine artist Dominic Serres, was on board one of the ships. The visual material in this book was commissioned by powerful civilian members of the Admiralty Board to increase their knowledge of a critical theatre of naval operations.
