Sir William Hamilton, celebrated in Napoleonic circles as the cuckolded husband in the Nelson-Emma-Hamilton love triangle, was a man of many parts. After a period as a soldier, and eventually MP he turned his hand to diplomacy and was sent, in 1764, to Naples as Envoy Extraordinary to the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. His observations of Vesuvius gained for him a Fellowship of the Royal Society. This book claims to have used Emma and William's correspondance (and William's unpublished notebooks) in order to shed new light on the relationship between husband and wife.
David Constantine is the author of several volumes of poetry and fiction. He has also published works of translation from German and French.
