This thoroughly-researched study explains and relates the little-known events that form part of the revolutionary history of the 18th century, a large part of which has been overshadowed by the French Revolution. The work takes a trans-national approach and investigates closely the exchanges that took place between the three countries that were in the throes of their various revolutions. The author pays particularly close attention to the revolutions that shook North America (1776-1801) and the Dutch Republic (1781-1801), and the modern transformation undergone by these countries as they entered the era that would henceforth belong to the Nation. All three of these revolutions sought to reconstruct their respective nations, and despite some important differences, all three used similar strategies and methods.
