This short book recounts the life of Joseph Bonaparte's daughter, Charlotte. Although many men were to fall in love with her, notably the Swiss painter Léopold Robert (who killed himself out of unrequited love for her), and the famous Italian man of letters, Giacomo Leopardi, she in the end was to marry the future Napoleon III's elder brother, Napoleon Louis. His brief life ended in tragedy in 1831 in Forlì, and she herself was to die eight years later, in childbirth, after a brief affair with a Polish adventurer. In curious irony, she was to end her days in the city from which sprang Bonaparte clan, Sarzana. Text in Italian.
